Cracow’s Old Town has a rich architecture, mainly from the Renaissance, with some examples of Gothic and Baroque. The city’s palaces, churches and manor houses show great riches in color, architectural detail, stained glass, paintings, sculptures and decor.

Cracow’s most interesting monuments
Central to the city is Main Square, in the Middle Ages it was Europe’s largest trade market. This huge space measures 200 meters along each side and is encircled by buildings. The largest of these is the St. Mary’s Church, with its famous altar. Central to the Main Square is also the 120 meter long marketplace from the 16th century, named Sukiennice.
In the southern part of the Old Town is one of Craców’s most interesting monuments – the Wawel Castle and Cathedral. The Wawel Castle was the residence of the king while Cracow was the capital of Poland. Wawel is therefore the natural center of Polish history, visited by large numbers of tourists each year.
